More importantly, the active sodium ions generated from decomposition undergo gas-phase reactions with hydroxyl (OH•) and hydrogen (H•) radicals present in the combustion chain reaction. This effectively captures and consumes these high-energy radicals, thereby interrupting the vigorous chain reaction of combustion and achieving rapid fire suppression. This type of extinguisher is particularly effective against Class B (flammable liquids, e.g., oils, solvents) and Class C (flammable gases, e.g., LPG, natural gas) fires.
